‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: Meg Ryan Posts Moving Homage to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the late director Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the beloved rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home over the weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner via comments shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the tribute noted. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Storied Career

When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s extensive filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
