Bellingham Needs to Cut Out the Immature behavior to Secure a Star Place Under Manager Thomas Tuchel.

For Bellingham to wants to earn his place back into England’s best starting eleven, he would be wise to do away with the unnecessary reactions. The way he reacted after noticing that the substitute board was being shown after a match of mixed performance in the match against Albania was unacceptable.

"I don’t want to blow it out of proportion but I stick to my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect for the players who enter the game," Tuchel said. "Choices are taken and you need to comply being a professional."

There is a lesson for Bellingham. There was no need for an outburst. Harry Kane had just put the Three Lions leading by two in a meaningless fixture, the game had six minutes to go and Bellingham, following an inconsistent display, received a caution for fouling Armando Broja. It was not a controversial substitution. Indeed it would have been unwise for the manager to keep Bellingham on the pitch because there was a risk Bellingham would make himself ineligible of the opening game of the World Cup by receiving a second caution.

Shifting Focus Upon Himself

Yet Bellingham drew all eyes toward himself. No one could overlook the player's frustration upon understanding that he was going to make way for a teammate. His arms went up in exasperation and even though he accepted the coach's hand on his way to the touchline it was clear that the manager was displeased.

This represents the hurdle facing Bellingham. He applauded his teammate for delivering the cross for Kane to score his second goal, but his other actions was counterproductive. It is not as if arguing was going to reverse the substitution. The German has talked so much about respecting team hierarchies and the necessity of showing proper conduct.

Under Scrutiny

The midfielder, not included in the team last month, is being watched carefully since coming back to the fold this month. In effect he was being assessed and he has not done himself any favours through his behavior to coming off the pitch as the side wrapped up a perfect qualifying campaign by overcoming a feisty challenge from their opponents.

The Coach's Plan

As a result opinions are divided on whether England perform optimally when Bellingham plays. What we saw was inconclusive. There was experimentation from Tuchel in the beginning. He has provided England a clear system over the past few matches, using a holding player, a central midfielder, a No 10 and out-and-out wingers, but the approach changed versus Albania. The young defender was given his first cap, Adam Wharton made his first start internationally and the use of the defender as an auxiliary midfielder gave a similar look to City's historic treble-winning side.

A Game of Two Halves

Bellingham was a mixed bag. He made a chance for his teammate after the break but at times seemed too desperate to impress. There were a lot of hurried and errant passes. An unnecessary confrontation with an Albania midfielder early on. The team looked disjointed after halftime. One Albania chance resulted from he lost the ball cheaply. His caution was shown after an opponent took the ball to Broja and fouled Broja.

Substitutes Decide

Finally the bench quality proved crucial. Tuchel threw on Foden, who seemed more naturally fitted to the position that Bellingham had played in the opening period, and Bukayo Saka. In time Saka provided a corner for Kane to score the first goal. This served as a reminder that corners and free-kicks will play a key role at the World Cup.

Connection Remains

However, the focus was on Bellingham. The brilliance of Rashford’s assist for Kane’s header was partly forgotten amid the drama of the Rogers substitution. At the end, all eyes were on Bellingham. Tuchel came over from behind and directed the player in the direction of the English fans. Their relationship remains intact. The coach isn't ready to abandon Bellingham yet. However, whether Tuchel is inclined to grant him a starring role is still uncertain.
