Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
