President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Soldiers to White House
President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed the press. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Community members gathered over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her former high school, stated to the press. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Revisions
Officials have accused a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the government to pause refugee claims and cease issuing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
